Silk

Sturdier than its reputation, but it rewards a light touch.

  1. Hand wash cold, never dry clean. Cold water with a pH neutral silk detergent, no enzymes and no bleach. Swish gently and do not agitate.
  2. Rinse and press, never wring. Rinse cold until it runs clear, lay flat on a clean towel and press gently. Twisting breaks the fibres.
  3. Dry flat, out of direct sunlight. Reshape on a fresh towel and air dry. Sunlight yellows silk over time, and a dryer is never the answer.
  4. Iron low, from the reverse. On the silk setting while slightly damp, always from the reverse side, with a press cloth.
  5. Keep away from perfume and deodorant. Both stain silk permanently, so dress first and scent after.
